Subject: OT/What Is The One 'Luxury' You Would Hate To Give Up?

Back in our great grandmother's day, they didn't have such things as
Ipods, computers, CD players, TiVos, DVD's and DVR's, cell phones, Play
Stations, flat screen TV's, GPS's for vehicles, and lots of other high
tech "toys" that we all take for granted now.
What would be the one thing that YOU wouldn't want to live without
now..what do you get the most enjoyment out of? Some of these things
I've never had, but I would hate to be without my computer now, OR the
CD player, DVD, and DVR. I would do fine without my cell phone, but like
having it with me in the car especially, in case of an emergency.
Even telephone systems have become more advanced from way back when, and
have become much more modernized since the old time phones where you'd
call up and get the operator and ask for the number, and would be
several people on the "party line", so had a hard time getting through.
They came up with rotary desk and wall phones after that, and then
cordless, and now everybody has a cell phone growing out of their ear.
People have Call Waiting, answering machines, Caller ID, etc. on their
private home phones. Do you have any of these features, which you
wouldn't want to do without? We just have a answering machines, but
didn't for many years.
Heck, even back when I was growing up, a lot of homes didn't have
microwaves, automatic washers and dryers, and dish washers, much less
food processors, electric bread makers, or even Crock Pots, so for all
you culinary folks out there what is the one thing in your house, used
for cooking, or cleaning, that you wouldn't want to be without now...in
other words, what appliance(s) is your "right hand man"?
The items I use the most (well, besides the W/D and D/Washer) is my
Crock Pot and Cuisinart food processor. I'd be lost too without my
microwave and heavy-duty Kitchen Aid electric mixer.
